Historic Preservations

Iron has been used in and around buildings for centuries. If you are fortunate enough to have a historic property, you know the importance of preserving that character and appearance. You also know that finding a replacement or piece of ironwork that matches your vintage ironwork can be nearly impossible. We are experts at renovating existing ironwork or completely redoing your ironwork so your historic building again looks period correct. Below are just a few examples of work we have done to preserve the beauty of times gone by.

Lowertown Lofts, 240 East 5th Street – St. Paul, MN

We were contracted to install new cast iron Stairs (treads and risers) to preserve the historic value of this downtown St Paul Apartment. The old stairs were badly deteriorated along with the substructure that supported them. New custom tread and riser patterns were made, then castings were ordered from Tomahawk Foundry, Rice Lake Wisconsin. Structural support components were designed and manufactured at our shop, then all the pieces were assembled on site. Please note the tread and riser details.

691 Lincoln Ave St. Paul

We were hired to renovate this vintage fence, while new masonry was put up. Installation required new connection hardware, adjustments to some overall lengths and a number of matching components had to be made. The fence was sandblasted, modified, repaired and reinstalled.

Private Residence – St. Paul, MN

This project is a restoration of some 1890’s vintage wrought iron fencing at the corner of Avon and Lincoln in Saint Paul. The heavy iron fence was removed from the stone wall, repaired, sandblasted, epoxy primed, polyurethane top coated, and reinstalled in the stone wall.
